How to Apply to NNU
We are excited about your interest in applying to Northwest Nazarene University! We want to make the undergraduate application process as simple as possible. If you would like to contact the undergraduate admissions office please call 1-877-NNU-4-YOU or (208) 467-8000.
Below are the forms a new freshman needs to complete. The Undergraduate Admissions Application is the form you should complete first. NNU will contact you to make sure we have the rest of the forms after you apply.

Once you have been accepted to NNU, you can secure your financial aid, housing assignment, and freshman year class schedule by paying your advance tuition deposit. This deposit will be applied to your tuition.
Undergraduate Admissions Criteria
If you're hoping for a great future, this is the place to start. Northwest Nazarene University welcomes your application! We carefully consider each student on an individual basis, using the following criteria:
High School Students
- Graduation from a high school with a grade point average of 2.5 (or above) on a 4.0 scale.
- A rank in the top 50 percent of the graduating class.
- An ACT composite standard score of 18 or above, or a SAT composite score of 1270 or above.
- Students who do not meet these criteria may be considered for provisional admittance.
A transcript must be submitted that was prepared and signed by the homeschool educator, showing a list of courses completed and grades received. Homeschooled students are evaluated using the same criteria as students who attend high school.
- Must show a GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
- Must have an ACT composite standard score of 18 or above, or SAT composite score of 1270 or above.
Students with a GED in lieu of a high school diploma may be admitted provisionally if they meet the following criteria:
- GED standard score average of 45 (450) or above, with a writing score of 45 (450) or above.
- ACT composite standard score of 18 or above or SAT composite score of 1270 or above.
Admission is generally granted to transfer students students who:
- Have completed 28 transferable college or university semester credits; and
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0; and are in good academic standing at their previous institution.
- Students who have completed less than 28 transferable credits at another school may be evaluated using freshman criteria. Please note that vocational or technical credits will usually not transfer to NNU.
- Students with less than 28 transferable credits will need to submit an ACT composite score of 18 or above or SAT composite score of 1270 or above.
We love our growing and vital campus
We can tell you! We can show you pictures! But the best way to know if NNU is the place for you is to visit our campus! We encourage all high school students in their junior or senior year and all transfer students to visit NNU. You will probably fall in love with our people and with our campus, but if you don't, that's OK too. At least you're one step closer to finding a college you will truly love!

Friday Escape is an excellent way to experience NNU. Escape from high school for a day to imagine your life as a college student.
Explore NNU is a two day event that allows you to attend classes, meet professors, get questions answered by admissions staff, and hang out with college students.
If you prefer a one-on-one experience, we invite you to request a personal visit on a day that is good for your schedule.
Important Campus Visit Information
- NNU will provide three meals in the Dining Hall for students and their parents. Additional meals may be purchased.
- Call our Campus Visit Coordinator to arrange airport pickups/drop-offs. Please note that we will not be able to transport you to or from the airport before 8am or after 9pm.
- NNU will offer a maximum of two nights stay in the residence halls.
- If staying overnight in a residence hall, please bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towels and necessary toiletries.
- Students transferring from other colleges or universities should bring a copy of their transcripts for evaluation.

Shawn serves NNU as the Director of Admissions. He and his wife Candice reside in the Treasure Valley with their children Jordan and Nolan. Shawn returned to NNU after working four years in the corporate sector. This valuable experience is added to his six years of NNU admissions experience at NNU and four years of service with the University Advancement team. Early in Shawn's career, he earned a master's of business administration from NNU. As an undergraduate student, Blenker served as the SGA President (1999-2000).
Rich graduated from NNU in 2002 earning a B.S. in Business Administration. He also earned his M.A. in Church Leadership from Southern Nazarene University. Rich is also an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and currently serves as the NYI President for both the Intermountain District and the NW Region. He has spent the last 10 years serving as a Co-Associate Pastor with his wife in Caldwell Idaho. Rich enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children. He also loves cars and motorcycles.
California, Washington (West)
Jen is a senior admissions counselor recruiting students who live in Western Washington. She counsels applied students planning to study Nursing, Liberal Studies, or those undecided. Jen graduated from NNU in 2007 with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and a minor in Spanish. While attending NNU, Jen participated in intramural football, a study-abroad program in Costa Rica, and was a member of NNU's summer travel group, Witness. Jen is married to Grant and spends her free time playing games, scouting thrift stores, and drinking coffee!
Adam is a senior admissions counselor recruiting students who live in Western Oregon. He counsels applied students planning to study Biology and/or Chemistry. He graduated from NNU in May 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and minors in Political Science and Communications. Adam found his niche at NNU in student government serving on both SGA and class councils, and continues to pursue leadership studies. When he's not working, Adam and his wife Toni love to play cards and volunteer in their church's youth group.
Alaska, Northwest (Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon, Northern Idaho), Off-Zone (Western US)
Jesse is an admissions counselor recruiting students who live in Eastern Washington, Alaska, and everywhere outside the northwest United States. He counsels applied students planning to study Communications, Kinesiology, Recreation & Sports Management, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or Math. Jesse graduated from NNU in 2013 with a B.A. in Communication Science. He transferred to NNU as a sophomore from a small community college in Washington. Jesse switched his major several times (like many students do) before finally settling on communication science. He worked in the Admissions Office as a student Ambassador and found his passion for communications at NNU. He says, "My three years at NNU were life changing!" When he's not working, Jesse loves to read and fish, and spend time with his wife, family and friends.
Colorado, Southern Idaho (excluding Boise, Meridian, Nampa), Utah, Nevada
Courtney is an admissions counselor recruiting students who live in Colorado and the Intermountain District. She counsels applied students planning to study English, Christian Ministries, Philosophy, Education, or Business. Courtney graduated from NNU in 2013 with a B.S. in Marketing and a B.A. in Business Administration. During her time at NNU she was president of NNU's American Marketing Association chapter, as well as an RA and a member of the Social Board. It was at NNU that she found her faith. Courtney says, "I know it sounds cheesy, but NNU changed my life! I wouldn't trade my four years here for anything." In her free time she likes to hang out with her best friends, drink coffee and play board games.
Montana, Wyoming, Treasure Valley (Boise, Meridian, Nampa)
Kyle is an admissions counselor recruiting students who live in the local Treasure Valley area, Montana, and Wyoming. He counsels applied students planning to study Political Science, International Studies, History, Music, Art, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Spanish, or Criminal Justice. He graduated from NNU in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in cultural studies. Kyle participated in music, travel groups, intramural sports and studied abroad in New Delhi, India during the years he spent at NNU. Kyle is married to Stephanie, who also graduated from NNU. When Kyle isn't working for NNU, he is out camping, hiking, skiing or somewhere in God's wilderness.
Sherri serves NNU as the Campus Visit Coordinator. She has graduated from NNU twice in her life: a bachelors of arts in public communications in 2002 and a master of arts in religion in pastoral ministry in 2009. She spent five years as an associate pastor before finding her way back to the campus community. Sherri and her husband, Nathan, have two children: Calais and Beckett. Their family loves music and takes every opportunity to experience live music in the Treasure Valley.
Dillon is the Director of Asian Recruitment and Marketing. Dillon works with international students from the Asian region who want to attend NNU. Dillon is a native of China having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Law from Xiangton University in China. In addition, he has earned a Master of Business Administration from Harding University in Arkansas. Dillon is fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English, and is married to Elsa.
